Lonesome track through the mountains

Boundless solitude and unspoiled nature – that’s what the off-road tour from Ballaban to the northeast, into the valley of the Osum River, promises. Traversing mountains and valleys in the truest sense, it leads through a deserted region far from any sign of civilization, over challenging terrain. Apart from sheep, you’re unlikely to encounter much life here. Along the way, picturesque picnic and camping spots invite travelers to pause, turning this tour into a prescription-free cure for stress-weary souls.
Starting in Ballaban, the route initially runs smoothly along a wide track. At the village of Kondas, take a sharp right turn, and things quickly become more demanding. The rough trail climbs steeply, throwing deep ruts and rocky steps in your path. Without high ground clearance and solid experience, this section is nearly impossible to navigate. Eventually, you’ll reach a plateau at around 800 meters elevation. The reward for your efforts is a sweeping view of the surrounding mountains.
Heading downhill, the track’s condition gradually improves until it reaches a nameless tributary of the Osum River. The route follows the stream’s course, climbs slightly, and eventually meets the Osum itself, where it connects with the asphalt of the SH 72. Turn right, and after approximately four kilometers, the village of Bogovë comes into view.
