When exploring in and around the Tomorr National Park, the Osum River seems to always be present—sometimes right next to the road, other times far below in the valley. However, it’s rare to have direct access to its waters. That’s what makes the ford east of the village of Orkogë so special. It’s a unique feature that can be beautifully integrated into a tour that partially passes through the Frashër National Park. All in all, it’s a moderate challenge with steep sections, rocky terrain, and muddy tracks.
At the start, bypass Ersekë on the ring road, and about halfway along, turn west onto a gravel track. The first few kilometers are easy-going, with the tiny villages of Kabash and Mësiçkë appearing along the route. Beyond these, the adventure begins with steep ascents over rough terrain. Once these climbs are behind you, there’s a chance to catch your breath. The route follows the mountain contours along a ridge, maintaining an elevation of 1,400 to 1,500 meters. Sweeping views open up, but not for long, as the trail soon enters a forested area. Here, a narrow and muddy path winds its way through dense trees.
A little beyond Orkogë, the route finally reaches the Osum River. This is where patience is key as you cautiously enter the water. While the riverbanks and bed are strewn with large stones, crossing the Osum is generally straightforward. The real challenge might be the water level, which varies depending on the season.
On the opposite bank, the trail continues on a good-quality track. The first section cuts through forest, then transitions into open terrain. The tiny village of Çlirim is reached quickly, and from there, it’s just a few more kilometers on well-maintained gravel before the asphalt begins at Qafzez. Four kilometers further on, you’ll meet the SH 75, which leads back to Ersekë to the right.
