In the northernmost corner of Albania, deep in the Albanian Alps, lies a remote valley called Vermosh. The village of the same name is considered the northernmost settlement in Albania. But it gets even more secluded: near the village of Tamarë, a gravel track branches off to the east, leading approximately 20 kilometers into total isolation, ending in Vukël.
Tamarë serves as a sort of center for the Vermosh Valley and is idyllically nestled in a basin surrounded by towering cliffs. Beyond Tamarë, the off-road adventure begins. At first, the gravel track seems quite manageable and easy to drive, though it is relatively narrow. The sheer rock walls rise steeply on both sides of the path.
After a while, the gorge opens up, and a rough, rocky trail leads into a high valley. The path passes through the village of Vukël and ends in the hamlet of Nikç. From there, the journey can only continue on foot. It’s the perfect place to stop, turn off the engine, and take in the stunning views of the surrounding peaks.

Closure or obstruction

The track is easy to drive on uphill to the hamlet (Pos. B). From the hamlet onward, the road winds around farmsteads, and stone walls and fences obstruct the passage. Trees and bushes scrape against the vehicle. This loop is by no means suitable for trucks; today, we would recommend an SUV at most. The view, however, is magnificent.
