On our 4x4 explorer tours, we don't just travel by off-road vehicle. If we want to feel the wind and weather up close, we also like to explore virgin tracks on our Yamaha Tenere or Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, although we do have to carry quite a bit of equipment with us because of the route documentation. So we have panniers attached pretty much everywhere on our bikes: Tank bags, rear bags and also bags on the side of the crash bars. All from Mosko Moto - and for good reason.

Why we chose the off-road outfitter Mosko Moto

Are you an experienced off-road biker? Then you probably know that although a hard-shell pannier system is ideal for touring on asphalt roads, it quickly reaches its limits off-road. Once you have laid your bike down properly, the cases are usually deformed and no longer close properly. In dense vegetation, they can get stuck and your enduro will respond with unpredictable initiatives of its own.

A well-designed pannier system is particularly important for longer off-road tours. So when we wanted to equip our bikes with a new luggage system, we absolutely needed robust softshell panniers. We had already tested various popular brands and thought one or two of the features were really cool. But so far we hadn't found anything that could withstand the extreme wear and tear of our explorer tours in the long term.

Then we heard about Mosko Moto: a tip from our off-road community. The company manufactures high-quality hardcore equipment for off-road machines, designed for off-road bikers on adventure trips. Even though the company's products are in the higher price segment, we found it worthwhile to equip our machines with them. It still applies: "You get what you pay for." Instead of replacing our panniers every few months, we preferred to get motorcycle panniers with a lifetime guarantee.

What does "lifetime warranty" mean at Mosko Moto?

Mosko Moto has developed its products itself and is convinced of their quality. The company stands fully behind them. Among other things, this means that Mosko offers an unlimited warranty on material or processing defects. Damage caused by age-related wear and tear is excluded - but the company is also very accommodating in such cases.

The warranty conditions are particularly interesting: The "Lifetime Crash Repair or Discounted Replacement Guarantee", which can also help our off-road scouts out of a jam in the event of accidental damage. On our off-road exploration tours, we treat ourselves to the odd challenging track, which really puts our riding technique to the test. If we lay our bikes down, at least we don't have to worry about new panniers.

These are our new panniers

Our two off-road motoscouts are currently on the road with two different machines: the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450 and the 700cc Yamaha Tenere. We therefore needed two different packing systems because the Yamaha Tenere does not have a regular pannier rack. But the Mosko Motos product portfolio now includes so many different pannier systems that we easily found the right solutions for both bikes.

We have now fitted these panniers to the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450:

- Backcountry Pannier Kit V2.5:
durably waterproof, two-layer system, very solid, tight fit, does not flap around while riding, does not interfere when getting on and off

- Alpine 30L Duffle:
lightweight, waterproof roll-top drybag with removable beavertail and removable backpack carrying straps, easy to mount and dismount

- Hood Tankbag V2.0:
100 % waterproof, the only tank bag on the market that can be opened with one click - even when wearing gloves

- two additional MOLLE Slim Pouches:
with zippers, allow quick access to smartphone, camera and travel documents etc.

- two Aux Pox V2.0 5L drybags on the side of the crash bars:
for tools, fuel or camping stove, with permanently attached harnesses, can also be used without the removable waterproof bags

Our Yamaha Tenere 700 is now equipped as follows:

- Reckless 80L V4.0:
100% waterproof rear bag system for machines without luggage rack, angle of the side panels individually adjustable, with beavertail and extra large opening for the tank cap

- Alpine 50L Duffle:
The same duffle as on our Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, only with more storage space, complements the rear bag system

- Nomax Tank-Bag V3.0:
Tank bag with integrated 2 liter hydro pack, easy to open, additional waterproof cover, can also be used as a backpack with carrying straps

- Aux Pox V2.0 5L drybags on the crash bars (as on the Royal Enfield):
For petrol, camping stove or other items of luggage that are better stored solo, with fixed harnesses and removable, waterproof pockets

Mosko Moto: Equipment for adventure bikes developed by bikers

Pete and Andrew, the founders of Mosko Moto, are both passionate off-road bikers. They are particularly fond of motorcycle touring. Their company name is a souvenir of a fateful motorcycle trip along the "Mosquito Coast" between Nicaragua and Honduras. Back then, Pete was traveling alone on his bike. Shortly before the border with Nicaragua, he had a nasty crash and had to be treated in hospital in Columbia Gorge.

There he met his future partner Andrew, the top designer for DaKine bags at the time. They wondered why there were so many well-designed and high-quality panniers and backpacks for other outdoor activities such as hiking, mountaineering and cycling, but nothing comparable for off-road bikers. After hours of talking, they made the plan to start a company together.

About a year later, Pete brought his crashed bike back home. After countless prototype designs, test rides and corrections, he had the first panniers that met their requirements. Now he took them with him for the endurance test on the long trip to Panama.

In 2013, they finally made things official: they founded the start-up Mosko Moto. They knew that making motorcycle gear was a balancing act between functionality, weight and durability. But they wanted to rise to the challenge and produce panniers that could withstand long journeys in rough terrain without significant damage. In terms of functionality, they wanted to top everything on the market at the time.

Having been on several exploratory trips with Mosko's packing systems, we can say that they have succeeded. Our new equipment can really take a beating. The bags have already survived several falls undamaged, and in terms of functionality, they are hard to beat. Since we've been storing our luggage in the Mosko Moto panniers, we no longer have to search for everything: we have everything to hand in no time at all.

Conclusion

We have equipped two of our off-road motorcycles with pannier systems from Mosko Moto. They have been in regular use since 2023 and have been through a lot, including crashes. So far, we have not had to make use of Mosko's warranty services once. The panniers are extremely robust and we are very happy with them.
